Research

Our Research summer internship program sets you up for a successful full-time career. As a Summer Analyst, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to actively contribute on J.P. Morgan's distinguished teams. The pace is fast, demanding and intellectually stimulating, and you will work harder and learn more than you ever thought possible. But we will give you the training and tools you need to succeed. As a key member of the team, you are expected to make a personal impact right from the start. After orientation and training, you will benefit from on-the-job experiences and networking opportunities, while handling real responsibilities throughout your internship.

We hire most of our full-time Analysts from the pool of Summer Analysts, so you may very well find yourself returning to school with a full-time offer in your pocket.

The magnitude of a Summer Analyst's job

As a Summer Analyst, you will gain hands-on experience in the financial markets and learn from outstanding colleagues. Practical exposure to the markets will give you a disciplined approach to producing reports that assess the investment merits of first-time and existing issuers, analyzing alternative investment products, providing ongoing assessments of fundamental trends in an industry or product and identifying investment opportunities in the secondary markets.

Summer Analysts are placed into one of the following groups: Equity, Credit and Credit Portfolio Group. You will work with a senior analyst to produce reports that assess the investment merits of first-time and existing issuers, provide ongoing assessments of trends in a given industry and identify investment opportunities in the secondary markets.

Responsibility from the start

As a Research Summer Analyst, you will:

  • Assess relevant news events
  • Conduct company specific financial analysis and industry analysis
  • Compile research on a specific industry
  • Dissect earnings releases and regulatory filings
  • Create and maintain financial models
  • Write monthly and quarterly industry reports
  • Participate in client calls and meetings
  • Compile and maintain company and industry relative value analysis
  • Arrange and prepare company and industry marketing events

Training and development

Summer Analysts undergo an intense five-day training and orientation session led by the same expert professional instructors and inspiring J.P. Morgan professionals who train full-time Analysts. But that's just the beginning. Every day, you'll learn a great deal from your colleagues and teammates and, most of all, from hands-on experience. Over the course of the summer, you will be invited to speaker series and networking events where you can chat with employees from every part of the firm.
