Attending an Interview
Interviews can be nerve-racking. Here's how you can set yourself up for success.
Research and rehearse. Stay up to date on the news, both general and firm-specific, so you can speak from a place of knowledge and confidence. Mock interviews with friends or family can help you practice your responses. Have specific examples of your previous experience that reflect the competencies of the opportunity you are applying for.
Prepare questions for our team. The interview is an opportunity for you to learn more about JPMorgan Chase and the role you are applying to.
Plan your environment. For virtual or phone interviews, test technology and connection prior to your interview to avoid any last-minute technical difficulties. And make sure you take the interview from a quiet, uninterrupted area.
Remember interview etiquette. No matter the format, be on time, dress appropriately and conduct yourself in a professional manner. Send a thank you note to your interviewer(s) expressing your continued excitement for the opportunity.

Frequently Asked Questions
HireVue and CodeVue are both our on-demand video interviewing tools used at the beginning of your application process. CodeVue is our tool used specifically for our Software Engineer Programs.
These virtual interviews are viewed by our hiring teams and us as an additional assessment point before inviting you to an in-person interview. It’s your opportunity to bring your resume to life and help us understand what makes you, you. Your responses are watched by real recruiters and the business, and do not typically have one correct way to answer.
You’ll receive an invite to complete a virtual interview that will be sent to the email address you provided on your application. The email will contain a link that takes you directly to your interview. You should complete the interview as soon as possible.
We recommend taking the interview in a distraction-free environment. You can use either your mobile device or a desktop/laptop. If via mobile, you’ll need to first download the HireVue app. If via desktop/laptop, you’ll need a camera and microphone. Additional details and instructions are in the invite.
We recommend you wear exactly what you would for a traditional face-to-face interview.
You’ll have the chance to answer a practice question – you can take as many practice questions as you’d like. We encourage this as you can check your lighting, camera and sound and get a better understanding of how the process works.
The interview will take approximately 10 minutes and will vary depending on the number of questions being asked. You’ll be asked between 3-5 competency-based questions, and depending on the question, you’ll have between 2-3 minutes to respond. You won’t be able to pause the interview when answering a question, however you can pause in between answering questions.
Don’t rush your answer. And remember, you don’t need to use all of the allotted time. You have another chance to record your response if you have a technical issue or disruption.
Your responses will be valid for 6 months, meaning you may not be required to complete another video interview for similar positions you apply to.
1. Give yourself plenty of time and be mindful of your surroundings when taking the interview.
2. Take advantage of the unlimited practice time to become comfortable with the set-up – we will not see your practice responses!
3. Finally, just be yourself and demonstrate why you’d be a great fit for us!
