Text: J.P. Morgan is now offering U.K. School leavers the opportunity to secure a front office investment banking role through an apprenticeship route.
Text: Vis Raghavan EMEA CEO of J.P. Morgan
Vis Raghavan:
The success of our firm hinges very much on diversity of thought. This apprenticeship program is a key pathway into entering the organization and effectively, we hope to attract people from all walks of life with various outlooks on how they want to approach a career at J.P. Morgan.
Vis Raghavan:
The investment banking business deals with governments, supernationals, some of the biggest companies in the world. Apprentices are exposed to the captains of industry. They work on some of the most exciting projects helping deliver on what companies are trying to do through the work with J.P. Morgan.
Vis Raghavan:
Investment banking is absolutely fantastic. It's fast-paced. The one way I would describe it is are you reading the news, or are you making the news? And in investment banking, you're making the news.
Vis Raghavan:
We want to attract people who have never even contemplated a career in investment banking. All we want is in select drive and our desire to succeed.

Mimi Abudu:
I'm a current apprentice. I work on the trading floor. I always knew I wanted to go into banking, and an apprenticeship was the best way for me to do so. And so I went to university as most people do. And then once I was there, I just realized that it wasn't really for me. And I looked for alternatives, found out about the apprenticeship program, applied, and just had a really strong gut feeling that that was the right decision.

Mimi Abudu:
The environment of the trading floor is very fast-paced. It's busy, it's loud. There's like an excitement around because everyone is just speaking to their clients, trying to make deals. It's quite nice to be around because you bounce off other people's energy.
Mimi Abudu:
My team is very supportive of my studies and very flexible around deadlines, which is made even better by the fact that what I study is directly relevant to what I do on a daily basis.
Text: Phill Paige, UK Early Years Careers Lead
Phill Paige:
At J.P. Morgan, our apprenticeships are broken down into two main groups. We have a apprentices study within technology and apprentices studying within financial services.
Phill Paige:
We've been increasing the number of apprentices we've taken on over the last few years, and we're now going to be taking on up to 120 apprentices as we move into 2021, which is really exciting.
Text: Apprentices can earn as they learn completing a university degree while they work.
Phill Paige:
So working alongside the apprentices is a really personal role. You get to know them. You get to see how they're developing. The best piece of advice I can offer to a school even at this point is to really research what's out there. You have to make an informed decision that's right for you. Research all the options. Look at the qualifications, look at the retention rates within the firm. Get beyond the basic understanding of the jobs within the company, as well. Understand that, for example, in financial services, it's more than trading. It's more than accounting. There are hundreds of jobs available here, and the same would be true in every sector.
Mimi Abudu:
If you're ready to dive into work from a younger age, apprenticeships are a great way to do that. There are so many opportunities and it is so rewarding.
